Sometimes ... it doesn't go that smoothly

Yesterday was my son's second birthday, so we decided to try to get some birthday portraits of him. He, unfortunately, wasn't that excited about the idea. Well, at times he didn't mind.

But he went from this face on the left to the one on the right in, I am not exaggerating, 33 seconds:

Thankfully, he got over it, and we actually managed to get some more pictures of him with each of us, too. But I couldn't resist sharing this one.

For the record, when I get that upset, I get that red that fast, too. I feel bad that I passed that on to the poor kiddo!

'The catalog shot'

I captured this moment during a playdate the other day with little N, who is a good little poser. His family has taken to calling this picture "the catalog shot," which cracks me up.

Rock on!

Some of my family was in town last weekend, including my brother M. I was messing around with a new lighting setup and borrowed my little bro's experience as a model from back in the day.

 
We were all a little fried after a busy weekend, so it quickly degenerated into silliness.

  

Fun with the S family

Also over Memorial Day weekend, I got together with my friend C and her husband A and daughter H. C is expecting a son any day now and realized they didn't have any photos from this pregnancy or any recent family pictures. So we decided to do a shoot that put H at the forefront and made her feel special since her life is about to get a bit more complicated.

This was one that really encapsulated that theme:

But we didn't forget about the little one who's about to join the family:

All in all, it was a pretty great weekend.  

 

The adorable Boyles

Last weekend, over Memorial Day, I met a lovely family, the Boyles, and their sweet son, J. We had such a great time capturing the little guy's personality -- and the family's interactions. How could you resist those eyes?

I loved this next one -- J was so excited, and I think it looks like he's revving a motorcycle!
